HOWEY-in-the-HILLS, FL – The Williams College Women's Golf team is now holding onto 7th place after day three of the 2010 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship. The Ephs are now tied with DePauw University, having earned a three day cumulative score of 1025 (353/331/341).
With one more day of competition ahead, the team hopes to finish with a solid spot in the top ten. "Our team battled for every shot today and recovered almost as well as we could after a difficult front nine," says head coach Erika DeSanty.
Despite hitting a rough patch early on, several Ephs gave notable performances today. Senior Anne O'Leary, the top team performer for each of the past three days, shot a 245 (82/85/78) on the day and is now tied for 13th individually with Katie Maurer of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Lizzie Blyth of Allegheny. "Anne played very well throughout the day," said coach. "On the final three holes, which are three of the most challenging holes on the course, she showed so much mental strength and determination and was able finish with three pars."
Senior Mary Gelber also had a pretty good day, shooting a 254 (88/79/87) to tie for 31st, while teammates Becky Miller (257) and Victoria Student (272) earned ties for 38th and 73rd, respectively.
"Tomorrow everyone needs to play their very best. We are glad to be starting on the back nine tomorrow and hope to take full advantage of the position we're in."
NCAA action concludes tomorrow.
