Women's Golf in 3rd Place After Day One of Jack Leaman Invitational

AMHERST, MA - The Williams College women's golf team shot a 339 today to place third on day one of the Jack Leaman Invitational Tournament at Amherst. The Ephs fall just three strokes behind host Amherst and Wellesley, which are tied for first place (336).

Damp and chilly conditions this morning led to a delay in competition and made the course especially challenging. According to head coach Erika DeSanty, "pin placements were very difficult, especially when considering the size and slow speeds of the greens."

Gloomy conditions were not enough to dampen the Eph's efforts. Leading the team were two freshmen, Victoria Student and Becky Miller, who both shot an 80 and are tied for first with Elizabeth Monty of Amherst and Megan Doherty of Holy Cross. This was one of the best performances of the season for Miller – she birdied the last three holes to earn the well-deserved 80.

"I am happy for both Victoria and Becky. Their play and scores today have put us in a position to compete for top honors tomorrow."

Other notable efforts for the Ephs came from Mary Gelber (89), Anne O'Leary (90), and junior Aimee Weber (93).

Competition continues tomorrow, April 18, 2010.
