Eph women golfers move up to 11th in Golf World/NGCA national poll

NEW YORK, NY — The first Golf World/NGCA Division III Coaches’ Poll of the spring season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The complete results, including results from Divisions I and II, will appear in the February 22 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now at www.golfworld.com.

Methodist remained the number one team in the poll, earning all 17 first-place votes. The Monarchs start their spring season March 8 at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational as they attempt to claim a 13th straight NCAA title.

Rounding out the top-five are Wisconsin-Eau Claire (No. 2), St. Mary’s (Ind.) (No. 3), Gustavus Adolphus (No. 4) and Washington (St. Louis) (No. 5).

Williams is one of two New England teams that are ranked in the top twenty-five.

No new schools entered the top-10 or the top-25 since the completion of the fall season.

First year Eph head coach Erika DeSanty has fashioned a new approach for the Ephs as they prepare for the upcoming spring portion of their schedule.

"Preparation for our spring season will be unlike any past spring season," notes DeSanty. "Currently the team is working to improve their flexibility, strength, and endurance and soon we will begin individual sessions using video analysis to get an early look at swing technique. Additionally, Kay McMahon, director and founder of EduKaytion Golf, has kindly offered to lead us in a Rules Workshop."

"This preparation will lead us to our spring training trip when we travel to Kiawah Island, SC.  We will practice on the Osprey Point and Turtle Point courses, and compete against South Carolina State University at Coosaw Creek Country Club in Charleston, SC. We will also meet with PGA and LPGA golf professional, Abby Welch, who will conduct a mental strength training
session."

"The team is eager to begin and committed to improve during our spring season with the hope of making and competing well in the NCAA tournament," said DeSanty.
