Ephs 5th Overall and Tops in NESCAC


The Williams women’s golf team won the NESCAC Championship this weekend, shooting the lowest score in the second round of their home tournament with a team score of 337. Sophomore Anne O’Leary was the runner-up for the low scorer of the tournament, shooting a 77 on her second day for a total score of 157 for the weekend. Top golfer of the tournament was Elmira College’s Tory MacNeil, senior, with a total score of 151, firing a 75 on her second day.

Overall, the Ephs placed fifth in the two-day Williams Fall Classic with a total score of 674, but was the highest finisher among NESCAC schools on the second day. Only the second day's score counted towards the NESCAC title and Williams out shot arch rival Amherst by three, 337-340 to take top honors.

Wellesley College placed first in the tournament with a total team score of 659. Holy Cross placed second with a score of 667 and St. Lawrence University placed third with a total team score of 668. Amherst finished fourth overall, one stroke ahead of Williams, with a total score of 673.


Other Eph scores included sophomore Mary Gelber, who shot an 83 on her second day for an overall score of 169. Also firing a two-day score of 169, sophomore Kait O’Brien who shot an 86 on her second day. Sophomore Kristin Nottebohm carded a 91 for a total score of 179. Freshman Lauren Antsey fired a 93, carding a score of 181 for the tournament.

Individual scores include Amiee Weber, freshman, who shot 87 on her second day for a total score of 172. Freshman Dale Markey fired a 103 on her second day , shooting a 196 for the weekend and freshman Mary Beth Daub shot a 116 for a total score of 220.

“Congratulations to Anne O’Leary for her runner-up finish,” Coach Herman said, “We battled and had amazing consistency as a team for shooting the same score [337] both days. I don’t think we took as much advantage as we could have for playing on our home course but we played hard and it’s great to be the NESCAC Champions; it’s been a really good fall."
