WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Home-course advantage did not help the
Ephs as Middlebury College won the two-day Williams Spring
Invitational. Middlebury posted a team score of 671 to out score
the ephs' 679 and capture the title.
Winning yet another individual title was
Amherst first year Hayley Milbourn, whose total of 154 was 8
strokes ahead of the field. Middlebury was led by Karen Levin's
164.
Though finishing eight shots behind Middlebury, the Ephs were 10 strokes ahead of third place arch-rival Amherst College and 27 strokes ahead of fourth place Mount Holyoke.
Carrying the Eph team was sophomore Anne O’Leary, whose two-day score of 163 was good enough for a tie for third place. Eph junior Laura Koplik tied for sixth shooting 81 on day two, and finishing with a 166. Other big finishes for Williams came from junior Melissa Barton and freshman Dale Markey, ending the tournament in 11th and 12th places with scores of 169 and 171, respectively.
Even though the Ephs struggled some, Assistant
Coach Kris Herman was optimistic: “It was a great day and the
course was in fantastic shape. We didn’t play as well as we
would’ve liked, but we're looking forward to seeing if we
qualify for Nationals.”
