Ephs Hold Onto Lead; Finish First At Vassar Invitational

Poughkeepsie, NY – Williams College women swung their way to a first place finish today at the Vassar College Invitational.
They kept their first place lead from day one scores, though St. Mary’s College of Indiana and Middlebury tried hard to lessen their lead. They succeeding, coming within six shots of Williams, though could not keep up with the Ephs, whose top three finishes were sub-90 strokes.
Leading the pack was Amherst first year Hayley Milbourn, who shot 77 in second day play. Williams’ Kristen Nottebohm tied for third with a second round score of 84. This was an all-time best tournament performance for the junior, who ended with a 168 two round total. Coming up right behind them was senior Melissa Barton, with a day two score of 89, and a 170 combined stroke total. Anne O’Leary and Laura Koplik rounded out the top four with 173 and 174 two round totals, respectively. Freshman Dale Markey finished strong in her first away tournament of the spring season with a 194 total.
“This is a good win in tough playing conditions today,” Eph head coach Fran Vandermeer said about the match today. “I’m proud of how our athletes handled the weather and the early season golf course conditions.”
The Ephs will tee off again Friday at the Jack Leaman Invitational, to be hosted by Amherst College.
