Success At the Head of the Charles

Williams Women’s Crew had an extremely promising weekend at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston despite facing adversity going into the race. With both senior coxswains absent, Nisi Zhang and Jean Oudin, two of the more experienced members of the team, stepped up and helped their boats perform well. According to Coach Justin Moore, ”The course is extremely technical in the second half and good driving  can really help a crew succeed. This two women exceeded my expectations and allowed our 1V and 2V crews to really race the event.”

The 1V boat had a clean and aggressive race finishing 3rd place after chasing Queens and Trent for the majority of the race. The 2v 8+ started in 31st  place which according to Coach Moore,” guarantees a team will have a Charles moment, or crashes that result from multiple boats passing under narrow bridges.”

The young 2V boat composed of four freshmen and two returning sophomores were supported by two senior members who helped the 2V perform as well as they did. The boat rowed an impressive race by passing 2 crews and moving up 16 positions in order to place 15th overall in the collegiate event.

Ultimately, the most important result of the day is that all boats, including the 4+ alumnae crew, all qualified to row in next year’s regatta. As shown by the stats and the efforts put forth by all members of Women’s crew the team had an impressive showing at the Regatta.

Next up for the team is the Head of the Fish in Saratoga New York on October 27.
