NORTH ADAMS, MA -- Chessie Jackson scored 22 points Sunday night as the Williams College women's basketball team handed cross-town rival MCLA its first loss, 100-62, in the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium.
The win was the third straight for Williams (3-1) while the Trailblazers dippped to 4-1 overall. First-years Grace Rhenquist, Stephanie Browne and Jen Borderud all scored their first collegiate points for the Ephs.
"It was a fun game, a game where we were able to play everybody," said Williams head coach Pat Manning. "We were really looking to push the pace, and I was happy with our transition game."
The Ephs raced out to a 7-0 lead before heading into halftime up by 18, 46-28. That lead hovered at 15 for most of the second half before a run by Williams led to the 38-point victory.
In addition to Jackson's 22, the Ephs received a nice performance from Rhenquist, who drained 5 of 7 shots from the floor to finish the night with 15. Senior captain Elizabeth Hansen also had a big night, pouring in 11 points. Point guard Jill Greenberg finished with 12 points and 7 assists.
Jen Wehner led the way for MCLA, netting a game-high 27 points. Freshman Lucy Trembley netted 16 points for the Trailblazers.
Williams is back on the road Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. game at Westfield State.
