While Williams was able to make a great game of it, the third time was not a charm for the William women’s basketball against number-one ranked squad in the country as the Lord Jeffs defeated the Ephs for the third time this season in the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament, 71-66.

Pat Manning's 20-7 Ephs will face undefeated Amherst (29-0) in Amherst on Friday night in the NCAA Sectional Semifinals. Gettysburg (24-4) will face Babson (27-3) in the other semifinal on Friday. Friday's winners will meet on Saturday night for the right to advance to the Final Four

Strong second half leads Ephs past DeSales into Sweet 16, 94-77
Williams (20-7) overpowered DeSales (19-10) in a strong second half performance of a second round NCAA tournament match up, 94-77. Juniors Taylor Shea and Chessie Jackson led the Ephs’ offensive effort with 24 and 23 points, respectively. Five Williams players scored in double figures.

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Pat Manning's women's basketball team has earned an at-large berth into the 2010 NCAA Div. III Tournament and will travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on Mount St. Mary College in a first round contest Friday.

Second half surge leads Bates past Ephs into NESCAC semifinals
Sixth-seeded Bates (14-11) powered past third-seeded Williams (18-7) in a NESCAC quarterfinal game this afternoon in Chandler Gymnasium on the Williams College campus, 70-63. The Bobcats used a 20-1 run in a 5:54 stretch in the beginning of the second half to bury the Ephs, and avenged their regular season loss on January 16.

Williams women’s basketball (18-6, 7-2 in NESCAC) finished off the regular season play on a positive note, defeating Trinity College (15-8, 3-6) in a contested game to the finish, 57-52. The Ephs bounced back following a rough loss to a highly competitive Amherst squad last night in LeFrak Gymnasium.

On January 26, 2008, Williams women’s basketball defeated Amherst at home to end the Lord Jeff’s 17-game win streak and bid for a perfect season. This year, the Ephs couldn’t accomplish the same momentous feat against the top-ranked Lord Jeffs, as Amherst (23-0, 8-0 in NESCAC) defeated Williams (17-6, 6-2), 86-52.

Ephs defeat Bowdoin for first time in 10 years, 75-54
Williams women's basketball rebounded from a disappointing conference loss last night to defeat Bowdoin College at home this afternoon, 75-54. The victory marks the Ephs first win over the Polar Bears since February 12, 2000, and clinches a home game for the first round of the NESCAC tournament.

Colby deals Ephs first conference loss in OT, 74-68
Williams women's basketball (16-5, 5-1 in NESCAC) suffered their first conference loss of the season, and their first loss since January 9, versus Colby (17-3, 4-2). The Ephs trailed in the first half before coming from behind to challenge the Mules in the latter twenty minutes. Colby proved to be too strong a presence on the boards for Williams as the Mules took the win in overtime, 74-68.

Ephs roll to fifth conference win, defeat Middlebury, 75-60
Williams women’s basketball (15-5, 5-0 in NESCAC) extended their unbeaten conference streak to five games in a 75-60 road win over Middlebury this afternoon. Junior Chessie Jackson led the way for the Ephs, scoring a game-high 18 points in the contest and grabbing 7 rebounds.

Ephs blow by Conn. College in final five minutes for 69-51 win
Williams women’s basketball (15-4, 4-0 in the NESCAC) picked up their second road win of the weekend over Connecticut College (RECORD), 69-51. Since the Ephs’ loss to archrival, and second-ranked, Amherst at home on January 6, Williams has won five straight contests.

Ephs hold off Wesleyan for third conference win, 53-46
Williams women’s basketball (14-4, 3-0 NESCAC) continued their strong play against conference opponents, upping their undefeated NESCAC record to 3-0 in a road win at Wesleyan (6-9, 0-3), 53-46. It was not an easy tally in the win column for the Ephs. Williams struggled on the offensive end for most of the night, but was able to counter their shooting woes with a strong defense.

After defeating the 11th-ranked Tufts Jumbos last night in a last-second thriller, Williams women’s basketball (13-4, 2-0 NESCAC) picked up another victory over Bates College (8-8, 0-2), 67-59. The win gives the Ephs a 2-0 start to conference play.

With the game knotted at fifty-seven points apiece, Williams junior Chessie Jackson and first-year Claire Baecher ran a perfect give and go play on the final offensive possession of the game to defeat the 11th-ranked Tufts Jumbos, 59-57.

Ephs outlast Wesleyan, 73-70
Williams women’s basketball (11-4) rebounded from a tough loss against archrival Amherst on Saturday to pick up a win against their other Little Three foe Wesleyan (6-6), 73-70, tonight at Chandler Gymnasium. The win did not come easy for the Ephs, as the Cardinals made a game of it in the second half after losing an early first half advantage and trailing at the break by seven.

No. 2 Amherst College (12-0) has steam rolled through the opposition this season, sporting an average margin of victory of 33 points in the first eleven games of the season. After falling by three in the opening round of the Winter Williams Classic to Emerson, the Williams women’s basketball team (9-4) found themselves in an another last-minute battle in the consolation game of the tournament against Rhode Island College (8-3). This time around the Ephs ended up on the winning end, holding off the Anchorwomen in the final seconds after letting a seventeen point second-half lead slip away.

Eastern edges Ephs in Winter Classic, 52-49
WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Freshman forward Tanisha Carter sank a twisting lay-up from the baseline with 58.4 seconds left Sunday, snapping a 47-all tie and leading Eastern Connecticut to a 52-49 victory over Williams College in the second game of the Williams Winter Classic.

Ephs rebound in second half to defeat Hamilton, 64-45
After losing by three points to Western Connecticut on Thursday, the Williams women’s basketball team were looking to rebound and finish off their last game before winter break with a quality win. Hamilton (6-2) came into today’s game riding a six-game win streak, but the Ephs emerged with a 64-45 victory.

West Conn. edges out Ephs, 71-68
Williams women’s basketball (7-2) dropped their first game since the season opener in a nail biting finish against visiting Western Connecticut State University (6-2), 71-68. The Ephs struggled to defend against the long ball, as the Colonials were drilling shots from behind the arc in the closing minutes and hit 7-of-16 three-point shots in the second half to put the brakes on Williams’ seven game-win streak.

Ephs win seventh straight game, defeat RPI 78-59
The Ephs (7-1) were kept scoreless for the first three minutes of play, but quickly broke their scoring drought to tear ahead of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1-5) for their seventh consecutive victory, 78-59. Williams used eleven successful shots from downtown to deal the Engineers their third straight loss.

The Williams women’s basketball team won the Williams Holiday Classic with in a rout over Worcester State, 78-46. The win gives Ephs head coach Pat Manning her 325th win in twenty seasons at Williams College, making her the all-time winningest basketball coach in school history.

Williams women’s basketball (5-1) tallied their fifth straight win en route to a thirty-point win over Emerson College (2-3), 89-59, in the first round of the Williams Holiday Classic. The Ephs await the winner of the William Smith and Worcester State game in tomorrow’s championship round at 3:00 p.m. in Chandler Gymnasium.

The Williams women’s basketball team (4-1) extended their early season win streak to four games, topping cross-state opponent Westfield State (4-2) in a 67-64 result that came down to the wire. Junior Chessie Jackson continued to lead the Ephs charge, scoring a team-high for the fourth consecutive game with 24 points.
