Jackson's 28 helps Ephs fend off Worcester State, 79-70

SANTA BARBARA, CA - Sophomore Chessie Jackson scored a game-high 28 points Monday as the Williams College women's basketball team knocked off Worcester State College, 79-70, in a game held at the University of California-Santa Barbara.

The Ephs improved to 3-5 on the season. They will face Eastern Connectiocut State tomorrow at UCSB at 2 p.m. PST.

Jackson's 28 points led the Ephs, but she had plenty of help as first-year forward Lisa Jaris scored 14 points, as did senior guard Mika Peterman.

The Ephs led by seven at halftime and by as many as 12 in the second half, only to watch as the Lancers rallied to cut the deficit to three at 73-70 down the stretch. Williams iced the game from the foul line however, sinking 17 of 21 attempts from the charity stripe.

"I thought our defensive effort was very good," Ephs head coach Pat Manning said. "And we rebounded well. Offensively, we were really emphasizing our inside game. We thought we could be effective and we were. "
