SANTA BARBARA, CA -- It was a heartbreaking ending to a trip out west Tuesday for the Williams College women's basketball team.
The Ephs hung tough against Eastern Connecticut and appeared a mere five seconds away from victory. But EConn tied the game, the Ephs missed a chance for the win as time expired and the Warriors eventually walked away 79-73 victors in overtime.
Williams (3-6) plays again Saturday at 8 p.m. against the University of Maine-Farnington.
"We took a lot of positives from today's game," Ephs head coach Pat Manning said. "This was definitely our toughest opponent to date and we responded with our best effort of the season."
Senior Mika Peterman led all the Ephs with 19 points, while Chessie Jackson netted 17, first-year guard Jill Greenberg 16 and first-year Kelsey Ham nine. Manning added that first-year forwards Lisa Jaris and Ana Rodriguez-Villa played well in defeat.
The Ephs jumped out to a 14-7 lead but trailed at halftime, 40-31.
