
AUGUSTA AND CARRABASSETT VALLEY, ME – The Williams College Ski Team finished up the 2011 Colby College Winter Carnival today in 5th place. In the first race of the day at Sugarloaf, the women's slalom, Laurel Carter '12 and Geordie Lonza '13 earned impressive 6th and 7th place results to lead the Williams Alpine women. A 22nd place finish by Annie Leiter '13 put the team in 3rd for the day's event. On the men's side, senior captain Jeff Putnam, Will Hadden '12 and Sean Cummiskey '12 garnered 24th, 26th and 28th place finishes which were good enough to put the Ephmen in 6th for the day. By taking the top spot in both the women's and men's team scores today, the University of Vermont remains undefeated in Alpine events this season and in carnivals as a whole. Action continued on the trails of Bond Brook with Nordic relay races in the freestyle technique.
Today's Nordic races consisted of each member of a three person team completing two, 3.3 kilometer loops. The Williams women's team of Sarah Tory '11, Madeline Wendt '11 and Kirsten Johnson '11, struggled through a broken pole and a bobbled tag-off to a 6th place finish. The Dartmouth women narrowly beat the University of New Hampshire to win the event. The Williams men's team of Mark Johnson '11, senior captain Keith Kantack and Dimitri Lüthi '12 was able to equal their finish from yesterday and place 3rd as a team again, behind teams from the University of Vermont and Dartmouth. Racing continues in two weeks at the University of Vermont Winter Carnival.
