STOWE, VT – The Williams Ski Team ended its season today with a 14th place finish out of 21 participating teams at the 2011 NCAA Skiing Championships in Stowe, VT. The event ended today with the men’s and women’s Alpine slalom at Spruce Peak, following yesterday’s final Nordic events at the Trapp Family Lodge. The courses evidently presented skiers with some difficulties today as many racers either were not able to stay on course or skied one run much better than the other: times fluctuated wildly within and between runs. The Williams women charged to a 9th place finish overall. Geordie Lonza ’13 closed out her tremendous season with a 19th place finish while Laurel Carter ’12 ended a great year with a 27th place effort. Annie Leiter ’13 unfortunately did not finish her first run today but should be proud of an NCAA appearance at the conclusion of a breakout year for her. The University of Denver’s Sterling Grant took home the win en route to team victory for the Pioneers. In a long-awaited bright spot for the host school, the University of Vermont’s Tim Kelley took top honors for the men in slalom. It was not enough, however, to hold off the University of Colorado, who triumphed in the team standings for the event and in the overall team score for the NCAA Championships.
