Complete Results

LAKE PLACID, NY -- On the last day of the St. Lawrence carnival, the Williams ski team moved up two spots to finish in 5th place for the weekend.

The improvement was largely due to a stronger performance by the men's alpine team, who rebounded from a tough opening day and placed 4 skiers in the top 25 of today's slalom. Leading the way was captain Alex Dyroff, who finished 13th. Jeff Putnam skied to a career best 20th, using a 11th place second run to move up the results sheet. Jeff Bak and Sean Cummiskey finished 24th and 25th, respectively. David Donaldson of UVM won the race.

Women's alpine continued their solid weekend, putting three in the top twenty en route to a fifth place team finish. Leading the way was sophomore Laurel Carter, who finished 11th. Emily Porter, who had the fastest second run, finished 16th. First year Geordie Lonza continued her impressive first carnival with a 20th place finish. Captain Kelsey Levine stood in 17th after one run, but fell on her second run. Dartmouth's Courtney Hammond won the race.

The men's nordic team had another respectable day, finishing fifth in today's 20 km freestyle. Captain Alex Taylor regained his form, finishing eleventh. Evan Dethier continued his impressive return from wisdom tooth removal to finish 19th. Close behind was junior Caleb Lucy who put down another 24th place finish. Junior Robby Cuthbert had his best ever skate race finishing 39th in the field of 91. New Hampshire's Dylan McGuffin won the race.

The women's nordic team came back from a tough friday with a fourth place showing in the 15 km skate race this afternoon. Leading the way was Kirsten Johnson, finishing 15th. Senior Alice Nelson finished 20th, just two spots ahead of junior Sarah Tory, who, with a 22nd place, had her best ever finish in a carnival. Sophomore Hannah Houseman also had a personal best, finishing 25th. Winning the race was Dartmouth's Ida Sargent.

Of the weekend, coach Bud Fisher commented that "there were certainly some individual bright spots, but as a whole team, we underachieved." The Ephs will look for improved performances next weekend at the St. Michael's carnival in Burlington, Vt.
