Williamstown, MA – The Williams College ski team placed
fifth in the first day of their home carnival with a total team
score of 241 points; hosted at Jiminy Peak for the Alpine races and
Prospect for the Nordic races. The men’s and women’s
giant slalom races were held for the Alpine team while the Nordic
races included the women’s 5K freestyle and men’s 10K
freestyle.
As a team, the men’s Alpine team placed fourth with 66
points. They were led by senior team captain Charles Christianson
who won his 5th (out of 9) races with a first run of 50.02 and a
second run time of 49.41. Eric Mann, junior, placed 17th with a
first run of 51.07 and a second run of 51.22. Senior Tavis Moonan
was also a top finisher for the Ephs, placing 26th with a first run
of 52.31 and a second run of 51.46. Senior Evan Barrett placed 30th
with a first run of 52.61 and a second run time of 52.46 while Alex
Dyroff, sophomore, placed 32nd with a first run time of 53.15 and a
second run of 52.22.
Top finisher for the women’s Alpine team was junior Jennah
Durham, placing ninth with a first run time of 52.81 and a second
run of 52.33. Kelsey Levine, sophomore, placed 13th with a first
run of 52.81 and a second run time of 53.13. Sophomore Emily Porter
placed 20th with a first run of 53.74 and a second run of 53.39.
Kelly Kirkpatrick, junior, placed 29th with a first run of 55.22
and a second run time of 54.67. Overall, the women’s team
also placed fourth with 66 points in the giant slalom race.
The men’s Nordic team placed seventh with 41 points in their
10K freestyle race. Freshman Caleb Lucy was the top finisher in the
race with the Ephs, placing 23rd with a race time of 24:30.5.
Alexander Taylor, sophomore, placed 27th with a race time of
24:43.5. Junior Sam Kapala, team captain, tied for 30th with Steven
Bedard from University of New Hampshire with a race time of
24:51.2.
For the women’s 5K freestyle race, sophomore Alice Nelson
led the top finishers with a fifth place finish and a race time of
13:06.4. Freshman Kirsten Johnson placed eleventh with a race time
of 13:24.1. Alessandra DeMarchis placed 23rd with a race time of
13:45.9 and Fiona Worcester, junior, placed 28th with a race time
of 14:05.1. Overall, the women’s team placed fourth with 68
points.
Currently leading the tournament is Dartmouth College with 309
points. The carnival continues tomorrow at Jiminy Peak and Prospect
with the first run of the Alpine men’s slalom as well as the
Nordic men’s three by three 1.5K classic relay beginning at
9:30am.
