Hanover, NH – The Williams College ski team placed fifth with a team score of 278 points after the first day of the Dartmouth College Carnival. The Alpine team had their giant slalom races while the Nordic team had their freestyle races.

In the women’s giant slalom races, the Alpine women placed fifth as a team with an overall score of 68 points. Junior Jennah Durham was the top finisher for the Ephs, placing eighth with a first run time of 1:01.38 and a second run of 59.08. Sophomore Emily Porter placed 25th with a first run of 1:02.69 and a second run time of 1:00.54 while Kelly Kirkpatrick, junior, placed 26th with a first run time of 1:02.72 and a second run time of 1:01.27. Freshman Annie Hanson placed 32nd with a first run time of 1:04.07 and a second run of 1:02.67.

Junior Eric Mann led the men’s Alpine team with a first place finish in the giant slalom race. Mann had a first run time of 57.79 and a second run time of 56.44. Senior Charles Christianson, team captain, placed seventh with a first run of 58.56 and a second run time of 56.58. Senior Evan Barrett placed 12th with a first run time of 58.51 and a second run of 57.21. Freshman Alex Reeves tied for 16th with a first run time of 59.22 and a second run of 56.73. With a great team performance, the men’s team placed second overall with 91 points.

The Nordic women placed fourth overall with 75 points in the 5K freestyle race. Alice Nelson, sophomore, placed seventh in the race with a run time of 14:35.5. Freshman Kirsten Johnson placed eleventh with a time of 14:55.6. Fiona Worcester, junior, placed 30th with a run time of 16:03.9. Gabrielle Joffe, freshman, placed 33rd with a time of 16:11.5 while Alessandra DeMarchis, sophomore, placed 34th with a time of 16:12.2.

In the Nordic men’s 10K freestyle race, freshman Keith Kantack led the team, placing 24th with a race time of 26:54.7. Junior Sam Kapala, team captain, placed 34th with a time of 27:23.7. Caleb Lucy, freshman, was also a top finisher for the Ephs, placing 36th with a run time of 27:24.9. The men’s Nordic team placed eighth overall with 44 points.

Dartmouth College currently leads the tournament with 376 points. The carnival continues tomorrow with the Alpine slalom races and the Nordic classic races. Races begin 9:30am with the first run of the men’s slalom race.
