Stowe, VT - The Williams College ski team placed fifth overall
with a team score of 485.5 after the second day of the University
of Vermont carnival.
Senior Charles Christianson, captain for the Alpine team, won the
men's slalom race today, placing sixth in his first run with a time
of 45.66 and then coming back with a really strong second run of
44.14. It was his first double win after placing first in
yesterday's giant slalom race as well. Tavis Moonan, senior, also
finished high in today's slalom race, tying for fifth place after
finishing in 50th place with his first run of 47.29 and then an
impressive second run of 45.02. Evan Barrett, senior, placed 30th
in the slalom race with a first run of 49.58 and a second run of
1:09.24. Ephs took third place in the men's slalom race with a team
score of 69.5 points.
Top finisher for the women's alpine team was Jennah Durham,
junior, who placed tenth in the slalom race with a first run of
51.40 and a second run time of 53.55. Emily Porter, sophomore,
placed 14th with a first run of 54.05 and a second run of 52.08.
Overall, the team placed seventh in the slalom with a team score of
45 points.
Christianson commented on the rough weather conditions and icy
snow but was proud of the team's strong showing, "It was very
exciting to see such strong performances and we are very happy to
be going to Dartmouth next weekend with good skiing under our
belts."
The Nordic team had their freestyle sprints today and on the men's
side team captain Sam Kapala, junior, was the top finisher, placing
17th with a run time of 2:55.39. Freshman Keith Kantack placed 21st
with a race time of 2:56.96 while Caleb Lucy, freshman, placed 22nd
with a time of 2:57.24. Freshman Evan Dethier tied for 24th place
with a time of 2:57.56. Solid performances on the men's team
secured fourth place in the freestyle race for the Ephs with a team
score of 62 points.
The women's Nordic team placed fifth overall in the freestyle race
with a team score of 68 points. Sophomore Alice Nelson finished in
13th place with a race time of 3:28.05. Kirsten Johnson, freshman,
placed 21st in the race with a time of 3:33.64. Alessandra
DeMarchis, sophomore, placed 27th with a race time of 3:37.48 while
junior Liz Kantack followed close behind, placing 28th with a time
of 3:38.79.
The next carnival for the Ephs is hosted by Dartmouth College and
will be held on February 8th and 9th in Hanover, New Hampshire.
Events will begin February 8th, Friday, at 9:30am with the first
run of the women's giant slalom.
