Stowe, VT – The Williams College ski team placed sixth with a team score of 241 points after the first day of the University of Vermont carnival. Today’s races included the men’s and women’s giant slalom races for the Alpine team and the men’s and women’s 10K classic races for the Nordic team.

Top finisher for the Ephs was Alpine team captain, senior Charles Christianson who placed first in the men’s giant slalom with a first race time of 57.49 and a second race time of 55.89. Other top finishers for the men’s alpine team include Alex Dyroff, sophomore, placing 13th with a first run time of 59.75 and an improved second time of 55.72. Freshman Alex Reeves finished 15th with race times of 59.31 and 56.91 while junior Eric Mann was right behind, placing 16th with a first run of 59.31 and a second time of 56.92. Overall, the men’s alpine team placed third in the giant slalom with a team score of 75 points.

For the lady Ephs, sophomore Kelsey Levine was the top finisher in the giant slalom, placing 19th with a first race time of 1:05.11 and a second run of 1:00.99. Junior Kelly Kirkpatrick placed 20th with a first time of 1:06.21 and a second time of 1:00.87. Annie Hanson, freshman, placed 21st with race times of 1:05.72 and 1:01.62. The Ephs placed seventh in the women’s giant slalom with 51 points.

Freshman Keith Kantack placed highest for the Ephs in the Nordic 10K classic race, finishing 20th with a race time of 30:52.5. Evan Dethier, freshman, placed 23rd with a time of 30:54.4 while junior team captain Sam Kapala finished in 35th place with a race time of 31:14.3. The men’s Nordic team placed eighth with 45 points.

In the women’s 10K classic race, sophomore Alice Nelson raced hard for the Ephs, placing sixth with a time of 34:39.3. Kirsten Johnson, freshman, placed ninth with a race time of 35:20.0 while junior Fiona Worcester placed 25th with a time of 36:50.8. The women’s Nordic team showed a great performance, placing third with 70 points in the 10K classic race.

University of Vermont is currently in the lead with a total team score of 324 points. The carnival continues tomorrow with the Alpine slalom races and the Nordic freestyle sprints. Races begin 9:00am with the men’s freestyle sprints.
