LAKE PLACID, NY – The Williams College ski team finished seventh in the St. Lawrence Carnival with a total team score of 346 points after the final day of the carnival which included the Alpine slalom and Nordic classic races.

Top performances for the Ephs include sophomore Alpine skier Alex Dyroff, placing fifth in the men’s slalom race with a first run of 44.95 and a second run time of 41.13, as well as sophomore Nordic skier Alice Nelson who placed fifth in the women’s 15K classic race with a time of 42:50.7.

Ephs placed fifth in the men’s slalom race with 51 points. Eric Mann, junior, also showed a strong race for the Ephs, placing 18th overall with a first run of 45.90 and an improved second run of 41.57. Senior Charles Christianson placed 23rd with a first run of 47.45 and also improving in the second run with a time of 41.09.

For the Alpine women’s slalom, the team placed sixth with 38 points, showing a high placing performance by sophomore Emily Porter who finished 16th overall with consistent run times of 47.13 and 46.24. Freshman Annie Hanson followed close behind, placing 19th with a first run of 48.34 and a second run time of 47.08. Junior Jennah Durham placed 29th with a first run of 44.42 and a second run time of 1:00.00.

Alpine team captain Christianson noted that, “All in all, the team’s skiing was really strong…both teams stepped it up and we’re all excited for the University of Vermont carnival in two weeks where we can build on this performance.”

For the Nordic skiers, the men’s team placed eighth in the 20K classic race with 32 points. Top finisher for the Ephs was freshman Keith Kantack who placed 27th overall with a race time of 57:24.2. Sam Kapala, junior, placed 31st with a race time of 57:39.2. Evan Dethier, freshman, and sophomore Alexander Taylor finished 36th and 37th with run times of 57:56.4 and 57:59.3.

The Ephs placed fourth in the women’s 15K classic race with a team score of 55 points. Nelson was the top skier in the race, followed by freshman Kirsten Johnson who placed 14th with a run time of 44:04.7. Other top finishers for the Ephs include freshman Gabrielle Joffe, junior Liz Kantack and junior Fiona Worcester who placed 32nd, 33rd and 34th. Joffe finished with a race time of 46:05.4, Kantack with a time of 46:18.5 and Worcester finished with a time of 46:22.4.

Dartmouth College placed first in the carnival with a total team score of 587.5 points, followed by Middlebury College with 555 points and University of Vermont which finished third with 527.5 points.

The next event for the Williams College ski team will be hosted by University of Vermont in Stowe, Vermont on February 1st and 2nd. Events will begin on February 1st, Friday, at 9:30am with the women's 10K classic race.
