Joey Lye

Assistant Coach, Softball

413-597-2899

Joey Lye was a four-year letter winner in both softball and hockey at Williams College and garnered all kinds of awards during her time on the ice and in the field – including the 2009 NESCAC Player of the Year in softball and a spot on the conference’s All-Sportsmanship team in both sports.

After graduating from Williams is 2009 with a bachelor's degree in psycology, she was named an assistant coach in softball and hockey for the 2009-10 year in July.

During her senior year, Lye was named a co-captain for women’s hockey and was considered one of the team leaders of the softball team. On the field, she brought her games to a new level, especially in softball, where she led the nation (for Div. III) in batting average with a .563 mark. That average broke the Williams record for a single-season.

Lye was selected as the ECAC 2009 Div. III New England Player of the Year. She was also named the NFCA's New England Region First Team as an at-large selection and as the NESCAC Player of the Year. She was also a New England Softball Coaches Association First Team selection.

Before she finished her career in May, the Ephs shortstop set five career records at Williams and finished among the top 10 in 11 different offensive categories. Her 2009 average of .563 is a Williams single-season record, of which she holds four, including stolen bases (22), which she also set this season.

Lye was an All-American in softball during her junior season. She was an all-conference selection four times in softball and once in women’s hockey.

In 2009, Lye led the Ephs in runs scored (43), hits (63), total bases (73), walks (13), on-base percentage (.608), and assists (74) as well as the aforementioned batting average and stolen bases.

She finished her career as the all-time leader in batting average (.457), runs scored (150), hits (211), total bases (267) and stolen bases (62). That in 148 games played, third best all-time.

Lye appeared in the May 25, 2009 issue of Sports Illustrated in the "Faces in the Crowd" section. Lye is the 25th Eph athlete to appear in "Faces in the Crowd" since August of 1989 and the first softball player.

For most of her Eph ice hockey career Lye played on the blue line, appearing in 100 games, netting 18 goals and registering 23 assists for 41 total points.
