CARACAS, VENEZUELA --
Team Canada with Eph alum Joey Lye has posted a 6-1 record through Group A play and has advanced to play the USA in its first game in the Page Playoff System at the World Softball Championships at 3:30 PM EDT on June 30th.

According to Wikipedia -- The Page Playoff System has the top four teams advance to the playoffs. In what's sometimes called the quarterfinals, the first- and second-placed teams and the third- and fourth-placed teams play each other. The winner of the 1 vs. 2 game gets a bye to the final. The loser of the 1 vs. 2 game plays the winner of the 3 vs. 4 game in the semi-final. The winner of the semi-final plays the winner of the 1 vs. 2 game in the final, with the winner of that game winning the competition.

Currently an assistant women's ice hockey and softball coach for the Ephs, Lye is making a strong contribution to the success of the Canadian National Team. Listed as a utility player Lye is displaying her many skills through the first seven games.

Lye did not make an appearance in Canada's first game, a 6-0 win over Cuba.

Lye's first appearance on the international stage came as a defensive replacement at second base in game two and she handled one chance flawlessly in the 5-2 win over Chinese-Taipei

In game three, Lye started in left field and batted second. She had a large impact on the 12-0, 5-inning win by the Canadians over Great Britain. Lye went 2-4, drove in one run and scored one and made a putout in left. It was Lye who ended the game early when she drove in the run that provided Canada with  a "run-ahead" rule victory.

Game four found Lye starting at second base. She batted eighth and was 0-1 with one run scored in the 7-0 win over Argentina. Lye was also credited with an assist in the field.

In a defensive battle of the group's two undefeated teams Japan edged Canada 2-1.

Lye did not start versus Japan, but she did play one inning in right field and grounded out in her one plate appearance.

In game six versus South Africa Lye started in left, batted third and played all four innings – she was hitless in two trips to the plate and recorded two putouts in the field in a 12-0 win.

Lye did not appear in Canada's 6-1 win over the Netherlands that clinched second place in Group A.
