Williamstown, MA-With the five best New England Division III men's cross-country teams present, the Eph men's team established themselves as a force to be reckoned with a solid win at the Purple Valley Classic. With a team score of just 41, Williams out-paced seventeen other schools, including arch rival Amherst, to take the team title in the men's 8K.

The team was led by junior Edgar Kosgey, who won his second meet in a row with a finishing time of 25:48. In addition, the Ephs showed that they are much more than a one man show, as four other runners (Brendan Christian '09, Jeff Perlis '10, Macklin Chafee '09, and Brian Cole '11) all finished in the top twelve.

In addition, the Ephs demonstrated that they will be a strong team for years to come in the open 5K race. With six of the top ten finishers and a commanding forty point win over second place Keene State, the men's freshman squad showed great promise. Anthony Raduazo ran a strong race to win the 5K in a time of 16:25. Teammate Mark Springel finished second in 16:54.

Kosgey and Raduazo employed similar tactics en route to winning their respective races. At the first mile of the 8K, Kosgey led, but only slightly, the rest of the men's field. By the third mile mark, however, he had established a lead of over thirty seconds. Raduazo also worked his way free from the front pack to open up a sizable lead on the rest of the competition. When asked about his second win of the season, Kosgey remained humble. "I didn't feel great during the second mile," he said, "But I felt a lot stronger on the big hill and was able to pick up the pace."

The Ephs hope that this meet was a sign of things to come as many of the teams present will also be racing at championship meets later in the season.

After a weekend of no racing, the Ephs will look to capitalize on their momentum at the Division I New England race at Franklin Park on October 11th.
