USTFCCA accords Lauren Philbrook and Fletcher Brooks New England Regional Honors

William senior distance runner Lauren Philbrook (Hopkinton, MA) and Eph head track & field coach Fletcher Brooks have been accorded regional honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their exploits this winter.

Philbrook was named the New England region's female track athlete of the year and Brooks was named the men's track & field coach of the year.

Philbrook, a senior co-captain at Williams, won the New England Division III Championship 5,000 meter race by 33 seconds in 17:06.31, which was an NCAA automatic qualifying mark. Her 5,000 meter mark at the New England Championships was the best time on the NCAA Division III performance list.

Brooks in his first season as head coach at Williams College led the Ephs to the 2009 New England Division III title with a score of 145 points. The Ephs continued their successful season one week later with a ninth-place finish at Division I All-New England meet. Williams was represented at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships by fifth-ranked Mack Chafee in the mile and by its fourth-ranked 4×400 meter relay squad.
