ADA, OH -- Macklin Chaffee was clocked at 4:17.48 in his qualifying heat of the mile to earn a spot in tomorrow afternoon's final at Ohio Northern University. Chaffee posted the day's third fastest time and will run in a field of 10, with the top eight earning All-America honors in the event.

"Macklin went out slow in his trial and I was a little concerned because you couldn't hear the splits and I wasn't sure he knew what he needed to qualify, but he picked it up near the end and had the third fastest time," said Farwell.

Chaffee was back on the track a little over two hours later closing out the DMR for the Ephs. "He's in great shape and he did the same thing for us at New England so I wasn't worried that he would not have a strong finish," Farwell stated.

The Eph Distance Medley Relay team of seniors Mack Brickley and Andrew Arons, sophomore Edgar Kosgey and junior Macklin Chaffee finished third at the NCAA Championships in a time of 10:03.06.

Wisconsin-Platteville won the event in a time of 9:59.71. with their top eight finish the Eph quartet earned All-American honors.

"Senior Mack Brickley got us off to a good start as he is big and strong and there were 10 runners on the track and he gave us a great leadoff leg," Farwell noted. "Mack's calm in traffic and he got us to fourth or fifth and then [Andrew] Arons ran a solid first lap and a great second lap to put us into second."

Edgar Kosgey was the third Eph runner on the track and due to a recent mishap at New Englands, Kosgey ran most of his race on the outside to avoid getting spiked.  He finished with a flurry to give the Ephs the lead ande handed off to Chaffee. "Chaffee had to pace the first 4-5 laps and eventually he got passed by [Wisconsin]-LaCrosse and Platteville, but he held onto third for us."

"Overall we had a good night," said Farwell.

The Ephs are currently tied for 11th out of 26 teams scoring after the first day of the two-day championship event.
