WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – Williams men’s tennis (9-4, 6-1 NESCAC) won their fifth straight match this morning against Hamilton (6-11, 1-6), 9-0. It is the Ephs’ fifth consecutive conference victory, and they will aim to continue that streak tomorrow against the top-ranked team in Division III tennis and conference foe, Middlebury.
The Ephs picked up their fifth 3-0 doubles sweep of the season. Dicken Chaplin and Bryan Chow rebounded from a recent loss on Thursday to take their match by an 8-2 margin. Kevin Shallcross stepped up to replace an injured Will Petrie at two doubles. Shallcross and Nick Lebedoff won, 8-6. The streak continues for Felix Sun and Trey Meyer, who tallied their eighth straight victory at court three with a dominant 8-0 showing.
In the hottest day of the spring season thus far, singles play was a quick affair for the Ephs. Williams won six matches in straight sets for the fourth time this season. Lebedoff lost just one game in his second set, defeating Jon Franzel at court one, 6-0, 6-1. His new doubles partner for the day fared equally well at court five. Shallcross also gave up just one game on the day, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Williams will host #1 Middlebury tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in their final regular season match of the season. The Panthers are currently undefeated in NESCAC play with a 6-0 record. Williams sports a 6-1 conference mark, and will be looking to spoil Middlebury’s bid for an undefeated regular season conference record.
