Ephs topple Garnet for first win, 8-1

SWARTHMORE, PA—The Williams College men’s tennis team (1-3) ended its spring break road trip on a high note with a 8-1 victory over Swarthmore College (3-7) Saturday afternoon. It was the Eph’s first win of the young season.

"Swarthmore is a very athletic team,” said head coach Dan Greenberg. “It was exciting to see our doubles start to come together to give us that 3-0 lead.”

Indeed the Ephs had struggled in their doubles matches in recent weeks, but all four Williams pairings (including exhibition) came out on top of their Swarthmore Garnet counterparts on Saturday to set the tone for the afternoon; buoyed by the doubles-sweep, the Ephs went on to win five of the six singles matches (and both singles exhibitions).

“We stayed focused in every match and didn't let up,” said Greenberg. “It was a great finish to our trip. We still have a lot to work on, but I think the team can feel they're getting better, which is always motivating."

The Ephs return to Williamstown for their home opener against Vassar College on Saturday, April 10th. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 AM EDT at the Torrence Hunt Tournament Courts.
