Eph men's tennis moves up to 5th in national poll

Nick Lebedoff '10

Dave Donn's Williams men's tennis team (2-0) climbed one spot from the end of the fall season in then national rankings to fifth. At the end of the fall portion of the schedule the Ephs were ranked sixth nationally.

Along with winning both dual matches in the fall the Ephs had six individuals advance to the Round of 16 at the ITA New England Tournament, four individuals advance to the ITA New England quarterfinals and junior Jeremy Weinberger made it to the semifinal round.  Senior Rick Devlin and first year Kevin Shallcroos made it to the Round of 16, senior Karol Furmaga, junior Nick Lebedoff and first year Will Petrie were the Ephs who made it to the quarterfinal round.

In the ITA New England doubles play Weinberger and Shallcross appeared in the semifinals and Furmaga and Devlin advanced to the quarterfinals.

"It is nice to be recognized coming into our season, but our main goal at this point is to continue improving and getting ready for spring break and beyond," noted head coach Dave Donn. "We're playing 10 teams currently ranked and that is only going to push us to become as mentally and physically tough as can be, which will be key"
