MINNEAPOLIS, MN – On day two of the 2010 NCAA Div. III Swimming and Diving championship, the Williams College swimming & diving team earned enough points to earn 9th place above their 12th place finish on day one.
The Ephs began today's finals with a nice performance in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The team of Ben Wampler, Graham Righi, Andrew D'Ignazio, and Gary Roberson placed 5th with a time of 1:22.42. "This was our first top eight relay of the meet," said head coach Steve Kuster. "All of the splits on the relay were good, especially Wampler's lead off (20.39)." With this push, Wampler broke a Williams school record (20.42).
Although the Ephs came up short of individual victories, contributions across the board helped the Ephs move up in the overall championship rankings. "Paul Dyrkacz had a great swim in the 400 IM moving from 16th to 10th." In the 200 free, Roberson earned 3rd place (1:39.16), breaking yet another school record – this time by .03. "The evening finished with a very solid 400 Medley Relay which finished 13th." At the end of the day, the team earned a total of 83 points.
Coach Kuster is optimistic about the team's potential. "Both the men and the women had unbelievable evenings. The men keep plugging away and coming up with great swims. They put themselves in a position to have a shot of finishing in the top 10, which would be a great accomplishment. "
