Ephs 9th after first day of NCAAs

OXFORD, OH. -- A sixth-place finish from senior Chris Millen in the 200 IM Thursday helped the Williams College men's swimming & diving team secure 9th place after the first day of the 2008 NCAA Div. III Swimming & Diving Championships on the campus of Miami of Ohio University.

Williams accumulated 45 points and is only one point behind 8th-place Springfield College and nine points behind 7th-place New York University's 54 points.

"I actually thought we had a decent day," Ephs head coach Steve Kuster said. "It's a very fast meet, a lot of our guys had relatively solid swims."

Millen's time of 1:52.57 in the 200 IM championship final was slightly slower than his morning time of 1:52.26 in the preliminaries, but still landed him a sixth-place finish. Senior Henry Felker placed 11th in the same event with a time of 1:53.14 while junior Tyler Bonewell was 18th and senior Ben Bullitt placed 25th.

Williams first-year Ben Wampler had the best time of any freshman in the 50 free, 20.88 seconds, and that was good enough for a 15th-place finish.  The Ephs 400 medley relay of Worth Macdonald, Alex Wentworth-Ping, Bonewell and Wampler swam to a 7th-place finish in 3;24.79.
