Ephs Win Sixth Straight NESCAC Title; Tyler Bonewell Swimmer of the Meet

MIDDLEBURY, VT-  The Williams College men’s swimming and diving team capped off an impressive three-day run with their sixth consecutive NESCAC championship.  The Ephs grabbed four event championships and finished with a 371 point advantage over second place Tufts.

“This was a great day to finish off the meet,” said head coach Steve Kuster.  “This was a good team win and an excellent way to cap off the weekend.”

Junior Tyler Bonewell had a superb weekend and finished it off by being named the swimmer of the meet.  On Day 3, Bonewell captured another event championship, this time in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:03.32 NATA).  Senior Henry Felker finished second (2:05.01 NATB).

First year Gary Roberson also ended his first NESCAC championship on a stellar note by taking the title in the 1650 yard freestyle (15:49.75 NATA).  In the 200 yard backstroke, senior Ben Bullitt achieved his first NESCAC title, while junior David Lebowitz finished third (1:54.80).

The most successful event for the Ephs, in terms of points, was the 200 yard butterfly.  Junior Norman Scott (1st – 1:49.81 NATA) and senior Chris Millen (3rd – 1:51.94) highlighted an event that featured 6 Ephs in the top 8.

“This was just a great day all around,” said Kuster.  “We had swimmers like Eddie Layng and Quinn Sievers who achieved their first ever top 8’s and seniors Matt Neuber, Mike Daub, and Dan Meyer finishing their careers off on top.”

The Ephs now look to celebrate their seventh league title in eight years and prepare for the NCAA Division 3 national championships later this month.
