15 Strong: Ephmen extend winning streak to 15 with Senior Day win

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA-  The Williams College men’s swimming and diving team (8-0) won 15 events Saturday en route to their 15th consecutive dual meet victory.  The win, a 208-86 affair against NESCAC rival Middlebury, was the final step in securing an undefeated season for the Ephs.

“[The Middlebury] swimmers were competitive or had the ability to be competitive in every event, but our guys just came out and asserted themselves, which is exactly what I wanted,” said head coach Steve Kuster.

In his final home meet, senior Chris Millen was the top Eph performer on Senior Day with three event victories.  Millen grabbed the top time in the 200 yard freestyle (1:41.22), the 200 yard backstroke (1:54.79), and the 400 yard IM (4:06.41).

The Ephs also received big contributions from next year’s senior class as juniors Tyler Bonewell and Norman Scott both posted multiple event wins on the day.  Bonewell finished first in the 100 yard breaststroke (59.35) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:08.92), while Scott grabbed the top spot in the 200 yard butterfly (1:52.66) and the 100 yard butterfly (50.11).

Also winning multiple events on the day were sophomore Chris Milliken, and first years Gary Roberson and Ben Wampler.  Milliken swept the diving events with wins in the 1 meter dive (230.63) and the 3 meter dive (226.28).  In the distance events, the 1650 yard freestyle (16:14.85) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:42.64), Gary Roberson finished first, while Wampler had the fastest time in the 50 yard freestyle (21.21) and the 100 yard freestyle (47.98).

“We are sending out a very deep senior class on both teams and this was just a great win in their final home meet,” said Kuster.

The Ephs continue their road to the NESCAC championships with a spot in next weekend’s Middlebury Invitational (February 8-9).
