Williams came out on top of the Naval
Academy on Saturday 8-1. The matches were tight up and down the
ladder but the Ephs managed to secure wins at all the even
positions in the first round.
Will Morris facing Navy #2 Ben Mantica and Ryan Eagan facing Navy
#8 John Richey each won in tough five-gamers. Nick Marks at four
was the only even number to win in straight sets as he displayed
some decisive shot making by finishing all three games with rolling
nicks. Freshman Julian Drobetsky also took care of business at #6
with a 3-1 win.
In the second round, it was junior Jeremy Herrmann winning the
fifth and decisive match in three strong games. Greaves-Tunnell won
in his typical disciplined style. Navy’s Abrams came out of
the gate strong, taking the first game against seasoned Eph Bernard
Yaros. But Yaros’ experience and determination proved too
much for the young Midshipman and he won the next three. Henze also
came out of the gates slow, but rallied and took the second, third
and fourth.
On court one, Buchsbaum dropped to former Lawrenceville teammate
Nils Mattson. It was a hard fought and technically sound match.
Happy with the match the Ephs started preparing for St. Lawrence in
the afternoon.
