Williams men's squad tops Bates

The men’s squad proved their perennial claim to fame “second best in the NESCAC” this weekend when they took down Bates and Middlebury. The decisive win over Bates was especially sweet for the Ephs, who lost to Bates last season. Kush Mahan beat Ethan Buchsbaum last season but Ethan turned the corner and beat Mahan in three. At number two Morris beat former teamate Will Katz in four games. Bernard Yaros’ took the upper hand over Bates captain Chip Russell, only surrendering one point. Jeremy Herrmann had a battle with Bates number seven Bobby Burns. After faltering in the first two Herrmann stormed back, winning the third and fourth. The fifth game was an emotional roller coaster with Herrmann going down 7-2 before fighting back to 7-7. Burns then somehow conjured a second wind from deep in his gut, heaving his game to the next level. Leaving it all on the court, Burns won the next two points, securing Bates’ only win on the day. Overall the match was a validation of all the teams’ hard work this season. The boy’s are looking forward to battle Penn next weekend.
