WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Williams sophomore midfielder Nick Pugliese (Rochester, NY) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Men's Soccer Second Team.
To achieve academic all-district honors a
player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or
important reserve, and possess a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.30
on a 4.0 scale.
Pugiliese has started all 15 games the Ephs
(12-2-1) have played this year. He has scored two goals and
assisted on three more for seven points. Pugliese’s
development as a midfielder is a large reason why the Ephs earned
the second seed in the NESCAC Tournament.
“Nick has really stepped up his game since Alex Johnson (MF)
went out with an injury and his level of play is now very, very
good,” stated Eph head coach Mike Russo. “He is
indefatigable and one of those rare players who can give you 90
minutes in the midfield and his first minute is at as high a work
rate as his 90th. His play has typified our “engine
room” [what we call the midfield].”
In his career Pugliese has played in 30 contests for the Ephs, starting 21.
Pugliese, who also letters in men’s crew
in the spring has yet to declare an academic major, however, he has
been named to the Dean’s List both semesters he has been at
Williams.
