SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – David Hawley recorded his fourth
goal of the contest with just 2:01 remaining to lead the Williams
College men's lacrosse team past Skidmore 7-6 Tuesday. The win
marks the second consecutive victory for the Ephs (4-4) while the
Thoroughbreds (7-3) have dropped two of their last three.
Neither team could generate much offense early on, however goals
from Hawley and Adam Benjamin gave the Ephs a precarious 2-0
advantage at the half. But the Ephs would add an additional pair of
goals from Hawley and Benjamin and a goal from Ryan Powell to
balloon their lead to 5-0 by the midpoint of the third period.
However, Skidmore would get on the board before the end of the
third period of off a goal from Cory Levesque and would ultmately
poor in six of the next seven goals to even the score with only
2:17 remaining. Unfortunately for the Thoroughbreds, the dramatic
comeback would be silenced only 16 seconds later when Hawley put
the Ephs back on top for good.
Hawley bookmarked the scoring for the Ephs -recording the first
and last goals- en route to his career-high four goal performance
and pushed his team leading mark to 24 goals for the season.
However, Eph goalie Michael Gerbush may have been the difference
maker as he recorded a season high 14 saves, with seven coming in
each half, to ensure the win.
Skidmore edged Williams in shots (Skidmore 36, Williams 30), but
the two teams each recorded 16 face off victories.
The Ephs look to turn their back-to-back victories into a streak
when the play Little Three rival Amherst on the road this Saturday
at 1:00 PM.
