Ephs drop Wesleyan 2-0

PLATTSBURGH, New York - Brett Haraguchi gave the Williams College men's hockey team the lead midway through the 1st period, and the Ephs never looked back as they defeated Wesleyan 2-0 to secure third place in the Cardinal Classic Saturday. The Ephs churned out a robust 37 shots to the Cardinals 17 in the win.
In both of the weekend games the Ephs recorded five power play opportunities; however, unlike Fridays 1-0 loss to Castleton, the Ephs took advantage. Haraguchi put the Ephs ahead at the 13:48 mark in the first period, when he took a Ryan Scott pass and beat the short-handed Cardinal defense to capitalize on the power play and give the Ephs the 1-0 lead.
The Ephs weathered six penalty minutes of their own in the 2nd period, and preserved the advantage into the game's final stanza. The score would remain the same throughout the bulk of the third period, however the Ephs did record a late insurance goal when Matt Dreiheim notched an empty net score with just six seconds remaining.
The win puts the Ephs at 1-1 for the weekend and 5-3 (2-0 NESCAC) for the season, while Wesleyan falls to 1-7 on the year.
The Ephs look to keep it going and preserve their unblemished conference mark when they host Skidmore next Friday, January 9. That games is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
Ryan Scott was named to the all-tournament team.
