Last-second goal nets Ephs 2-2 tie with UMass-Boston

Box Score

BOSTON, MA -- Junior forward Matt Draheim scored his second goal of the game with two-tenths of a second left in the third period Friday night to give the Williams College men's hockey team a 2-2 tie with host UMass-Boston.

Draheim's dramatic goal came with Ephs goaltender Marc Pulde on the bench in lieu of an extra attacker. Defenseman David Ramsay got the puck to center Alex Smigelski and Draheim capped the play with a goal. Both Ramsay and Smigelski were credited with assists on the play.

Williams moved to 8-9-4 overall with the tie, while the Beacons slid to 8-12-2. The Ephs take on Babson Saturday at 4 p.m.

Draheim had one goal on the season entering the game, but his second gave Williams a 1-0 lead at the 15:12 mark of the first period. Brett Haraguchi and Andrew Lepore assisted on that tally.

UMass-Boston rallied with two-second period goals -- David Lun and Ryan Huggett had the honors -- and held that lead until the final second of the third period. The Beacons killed off three Williams power-play opportunities in the third period, including a minute-long 5 on 3 chance.

The Ephs outshot UMass-Boston, 39-25, in the contest. Pulde made 23 saves for Williams, while Ryan Donovan stopped 37 shots for the Beacons.
