Ephs fall to Connecticut College 5-2

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn – The Williams College men’s hockey team fell to Connecticut College 5-2 in Saturday. The defeat is the second in as many days for the Ephs, as the opening weekend comes to a close.

The game started well for the Ephs, as sharp passing and physical play culminated in a Brett Haraguchi goal at the 14:16 mark of the first period.  However, the Camels responded with a goal of their own three minutes later when Brian Liamero took a pass from Brett Moore and rocketed it into the net.

Over the next period and a half, the Camels added three consecutive goals from Rob Campbell, Brian Gallagher, and Ryan Joyce to go up 4-1. The Ephs battled back and notched a goal of their own when a beautiful pass from Chris Fahey found Brandon Jackmuff, who promptly slapped in the puck 8:51 into the third period.

The Camels rebounded and scored four minutes later off a Brian Warner shot, to restore their previous advantage and put the game out of reach at 5-2.

Despite the score, the Ephs played well and generated offensive pressure (they fired off 42 shots to the Camels 33). However, stellar goaltending by Connecticut goaltender Greg Parker (40 saves) coupled with an opportunistic offensive squad (3 goals of power plays) ultimately carried the Camels to victory.

“It hurts to lose, but we saw a lot of good things today. We definitely improved – we created a lot of quality chances – but we just need to keep getting better.” Remarked Eph coach Bill Kangas.

The Ephs have a week to do just that when they travel to Utica, New York to take on Utica College. The game is scheduled for Saturday the 24th at 4:00 PM.
