Ephs stay hot, cruise past St. Michael's 5-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass - Showing no ill effect from last nights
slugfest victory over Norwich University, the Williams College
men’s hockey team (8-9-3) used another quick start against
visiting St. Michael‘s College (9-10-1) Saturday - netting
the game's first goal only 2:15 in, before cruising to a 5-0
victory.
The Ephs built a four goal lead by the end of the 2nd period,
before adding an insurance goal in the 3rd period in the win.
Williams out shot St. Michael’s 46-40, and Eph goaltender
Marc Pudle had his second consecutive sensational game, stopping
all 40 shots he faced en route to earning his first shutout of the
season.
Will Bruce’s early stick side winner kicked things off for
the Ephs and David Ramsay followed only 8:56 later when he
exploited the power play with a sensational satellite guided
missile from the blue line. Ryan Young and Octavian Jordan added
goals in the 2nd period as the Ephs tightened their grip on the
Purple Knights. Before it was all said and done Steve Bruch would
add an additional insurance goal for the Ephs in the 3rd period -
closing out the scoring and finalizing the score at 5-0.
In what was easily the Ephs most dominate effort of the season,
they looked crisp throughout as they continued to employ the fast
and physical style that has been so successful over their last two
games.
The Ephs have gone 3-1-1 over their last five games and are
playing their best hockey of the season. St. Michael's, on the
other hand, came in having won four of their last six games but
simply couldn’t find their stride. Besides the shot deficit,
the Purple Knights committed 12 more penalties than the Ephs
(St. Michael's: 21 - Williams: 9) and served 38 more minutes in the
penalty box (St. Michael's: 77 minutes - Williams: 29 minutes).
The signs seem to be pointing towards a real revitalization for
the Ephs, who finally put together a pair of complete games this
weekend.
“We have been playing well during the critical times of the
game - the 3rd period and overtime, we just needed to learn to
start strong and we definitely did that this weekend.”
remarked Eph Coach Bill Kangas, “We’re playing great
hockey at the right time.”
The Ephs look to continue their push towards the postseason next
Friday the 15th at UMass-Boston at 7:00 PM.
