BRUNSWICK, ME – The Williams men’s
golf team chopped 24 shots off their first day effort at the
Bowdoin Invitational and finished 5th overall. The Ephs struggled
on day one and posted a team score of 332, but several Ephs showed
dramatic improvement on Sunday.
Leading the way on Sunday and overall was Bob Camp Camp shot an 81 on Saturday and then tied for the best round of day two when he carded a 71. Camp finished tied for 7th overall at 152.
Jake Wagner came in six shots better than he posted on Sunday with a 76. His two-day total left him in 15th place with a score of 158. Tied for 16th overall at 159 was Jack Killea who rebounded on Sunday with a 78, three shots better than his first round.
Siwol Chang knocked five shots off his opening round 88 to card an 83 on Sunday and closed out the Eph team scoring. Chang tied for 39th with a score of 171.
Drew Murray rebounded from an uncharacteristic 97 in the opening round to fire an 88. Murray’s 185 placed him in a tie for 50th place.
“We had a much better day today as a whole, but we have to address some issues before this weekend at Taconic for our Invitational,” noted Eph head coach Rick Pohle. “Bob Camp (152) had a great tournament. Both Jake Wagner (158) and Jack Killea (159) showed signs of regaining the form that they displayed as freshmen."
“We had a number of players competing at Taconic over the
weekend and we will have to see where/when they will get their
opportunity to show what their game can do in the main
line-up. We'll know a lot more by the end of practice this
week.”
On September 19 and 20 the Ephs will host the Williams
Invitational at Taconic Golf Club with Saturday’s tee off
slated for 11:30 AM, while Sunday’s round will commence at
8:00 AM.
