Men's Golf Atop the Leaderboard after Day 1 of the Williams Invitational; Williams "B" in 5th

Williamstown, MA – The Williams Men’s Golf team came out firing today, as they completed their first round atop the Leaderboard, with the Williams “B” team lurking close behind in 5th place.

Jack Killea ‘11 , and Chris Valle ‘12 both shot impressive rounds of even par 70 today. First-year Wyatt Sparks followed suit with a 73 in his first competitive round as an Eph. Juniors Bob Camp ’11 and Jake Wagner ’11 anchored the scoring with 75’s of their own to contribute to a tally of 288 for the Williams “A” team.

The Williams “B” squad also had a strong showing out on the course today, as first-year Jack Ervasti put up an impressive even par round of 70. Drew Murray ’11  bounced back from last week’s tough start with a strong 73 of his own, and Siwol Chang ’12 supported with a 77. Mario Mastromarino ’12 rounded out the scoring with a 78 and First Year Ryan Brand shot an 80 today. The “B” squad tallied a very respectable 297 for the opening round, leaving them a mere nine shots behind their compatriots.

Competing Individually, first-years Alex Xu and Hrishi Srinageshi shot rounds of 81 and 82, respectively.

With the 288 total, Williams “A” holds a two stroke lead over Salem State, with NYU (294 total), Middlebury (297 total), and Williams “B” (298 total) right in the mix.

“There were some good efforts from a number of our players out there today,” said Coach Pohle. “Some of our upper classmen are regaining the form they displayed as freshman. I think the competition that is developing within the team will only make us tougher as the season unfolds.”
The Ephs look to hold their lead and finish strong tomorrow in the final round. Tomorrows tee times will start at 8:00 A.M., as the Williams “B” team will start teeing off at 8:40, and the Williams “A” team will start at 9:20, both off the first tee.
