Williams Men's Golf Finishes T-3rd at Palamountain Invitational

Saratoga Springs, NY - The Williams Men's Golf Team finished the final round today with a team score of 315 for a two day total of 628 to finish tied for 3rd at the Palamountain Invitational, hosted by Skidmore College.

"Overall as a team, we did play better at McGregor Golf Links than we have in the past," said Coach Pohle, "It is a difficult place to play when you only see it, perhaps, once a year. There is so much local knowledge there and mistakes usually end up producing large numbers on the scorecard which is demoralizing and not very beneficial to team play."

Leading the pack for the Ephs was junior Bob Camp '11 who shot an impressive 74 at the tricky MacGregor Golf Links today for a tournament total of 154. First year Jack Ervasti '13 followed up his 77 from yesterday with a solid 79 today for a solid 156 performance. "Bob Camp had a great day today and handled the challenge extremely well; even his first round 80 was close to being a lot better than it was," noted Pohle, "Jack Ervasti had a very steady tournament with both rounds in the 70's, but even he admitted there was room for improvement. By virtue of their play this weekend, both have secured a spot on the roster for next weekend's event at Taconic in the Williams Spring Opener. The remaining spots will be determined by a qualifier this Thursday and Friday."

Junior Jack Killea '11 had a better showing today with an 80 after his first round 84 for a 164 total, and Jake Wagner '11 rounded out today's scoring with an 82 after his first round 80, for a 162 this weekend. After firing a solid 76 yesterday and leading the team, first year Wyatt Sparks '13 struggled today, shooting an 85 for a 161 tournament total. "Most of the other players were in agreement that they had wasted numerous shots around the green, but that comes from not having an opportunity to play on a course this early in the spring up north," said Coach Pohle, "most of our competition have been out on our opponents' courses for about 2 weeks, so we are hoping that we will be sharpen our scoring now than Taconic is scheduled to open on April 15th."

The Men's Golf Team will be hosting the Williams Spring Opener next weekend at the finished Taconic Golf Club, as they look to continue to improve their games and use the tournament as a springboard for the NESCAC Championship the following weekend, which will be held again at Taconic.
