Ephs finish 3rd at Trinity Invitational

The Ephs improved on their first day effort, but still lost
ground to Middlebury and Trinity on the second day of the Trinity
Fall Shoot-Out. The Ephs fired a 305 on Sunday, an 11-shot
improvement from Saturday, but it was not quite up to the level of
play by the host Bantams of Trinity and Middlebury.
Every single Eph who scored on Sunday improved his individual score
from Saturday with senior Tyler Zara chopping five shots off his
Saturday round of 83 to card a 78.
Sophomore Jack Killea (76-74 = 150) and senior Matt Felser
(76-75 = 151) put up good numbers over the weekend with two solid
rounds and finished off their fall portion of the season on a high
note. Sophomores Jake Wagner (81-78 = 159), Drew Murray (83-83 =
166) and Zara (83-78 = 161) struggled to find their games during
the event.
"It is quite evident the Middlebury and Trinity are the top dogs in
our conference right now," said Eph head coach Rick Pohle. "They
both have depth and the ability to send a couple of players very
low on any given day. We have not been able to stay with them at
all this fall. The good news is that the slate gets wiped clean for
the spring and we have the ability to pull off what we did last
year - win the conference championship and secure the NCAA
automatic bid. Our spring trip in March will have to set the tone
for the spring season and get us prepared."
Middlebury (310 + 294) and Trinity (309 + 295) tied for the
tournament title with identical 604 team scores, but Middlebury won
the tie-breaker by virtue of the better 5th score form today's
play. Williams total of 621 (316 + 305) was good for third place,
while Wesleyan placed fourth with a 644 total.
The Trinity fall Shout-Out concluded the Ephs' competitive fall
schedule, however, over the next couple of weeks the Pohle will be
deciding the roster for the spring trip and putting together the
necessary itinerary to get things back on track.
