Ephs settle into 3rd after first round

Cromwell, CT -- Despite some strong individual efforts, the Ephs were edged by seven strokes in today's events at the TPC River Highlands course in the Trinity Fall Shoot-Out.  The host school grabbed the top spot with a score of 309, aided greatly by sophomore Jay Driscoll's impressive one-under-par performance (69).  Middlebury ended the day just one stroke short of the leader (310) and Wesleyan rounded out the scoring with a 325, good for fourth place.

Williams was lead by senior Matt Felser and sophomore Jack Killea, who both posted scores of 76.  Their teammates had uncharacteristically difficult rounds, with sophomores Jake Wagner and Drew Murray, and senior Tyler Zara all finishing the day in the 80's.

"Our three remaining players struggled, but we are in striking distance of the top spot if we can gain some confidence for the second round," stated head coach Rick Pohle.  "Big numbers on a few holes were the undoing of most players rounds.  We need to keep bogies from becoming doubles and triples if we are to contend with Trinity & Middlebury tomorrow

Round two begins tomorrow at 11:00 am at the Shuttle Meadow CC in Kensington, Connecticut, where last spring the Ephs captured the NCAA bid by winning the NESCAC Championship.
