Ephs shoot 307 and are 8th out of 22 after 1st day of Duke Nelson Tounrey

Drew Murray '11
MIDDLEBURY,VT -- The Williams men's golf team posted a
respectable 307 total on day one of the Duke Nelson Invitational to
claim 8th place, but realize that they should have done a whole
better.
"Generally speaking, we played like a young team with little
experience which to be honest, surprised me," said Eph head coach
Rick Pohle. "I felt we took too many chances and tried to force the
issue instead of letting the game play out. Sometimes you have to
accept what is unfolding and just post a score and see what happens
- never lose focus of your game plan."
Sophomore Drew Murray led the Ephs scoring with a fine 73 –
playing steadily all day. First year Siwol Chang posted a
fine 75 in his first collegiate competition despite finishing with
a double bogey on his last hole. Rounding out the scoring for the
Ephs were sophomores Bob Camp (79) and Jack Killea (80), while
senior Matt Felser contributed an 80. Competing as individuals and
making a solid showing were Eph seniors Galen Jackson (76) and
Rahul Bahl (79).
Even with the showing, Williams is only four shots out of third
place and that will be the Ephs goal for tomorrow.
Trinity College blew the field away with a 286 total and holds an 8
shot lead over perennial powerhouse Skidmore College (294).
Play play on Sunday begins with a 9:00 am shotgun start.
