Ephs Close First Round in 6th Place at the Palamountain Invitational

Drew Murray '11
Saratoga Springs, NY – Fighting through
the blistering cold and tough wind conditions, the Williams
men’s golf team completed their first round today at the
Palamountain Invitational at McGregor Links Golf Club, hosted by
Skidmore College.
The Ephs finished the day in 6th place out of 14 teams with a 335
team total. Currently ahead of the Ephs are Skidmore Green (311),
Hamilton (321), Middlebury (327), Farmingdale State (328), and
Skidmore Gold (332).
Leading the Ephs was sophomore Bob Camp, who had a strong showing
today with a 78, and is currently in a tie for 4th place
individually. Battling the elements, the rest of the Ephs struggled
to find their games as Drew Murray ’11 had an 84, Galen
Jackson ’09 shot an 86, Jake Wagner ’11 had an 87, and
Siwol Chang ’12 shot an 89. Chris Valle ‘12 also played
individually and finished the day with a 93.
“Today was not really how we wanted to begin the northern
portion of our season, but today was the first day any of our
players were able to play or practice since returning from
Florida,” said Coach Rick Pohle. “It is hard to believe
how far behind the other areas we are in the Berkshires - almost
everyone else has been on their courses or ranges for two or more
weeks. We are hoping with the opening of Taconic GC on Wednesday
that our games will begin to take shape. Bob Camp had a great day
in the cold and blustery conditions - I am pleased that he is
trying to regain the form he portrayed last year. Tomorrow we will
look to improve on today's effort and start to develop more
consistency and fewer large numbers on holes."
The final round will begin as a shotgun tomorrow at 10:00 am at
the McGregor Links Golf Club.
