Ephs tie for 2nd at Skidmore Fall Classic

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The 12th-ranked Skidmore College golf
team shot 306 to win the four-team Skidmore Fall Invitational
played Wednesday at Saratoga National Country Club. Williams and
Clarkson tied for second with 330, and Mass College of the Liberal
Arts fourth with 375.
Skidmore's Toby Spector shot a two-over par 74 to earn medalist
honors.
"Having a mid-week match comprising only four teams gave the men's
golf team the opportunity to play some new faces at the demanding
Saratoga National GC in Saratoga, NY," noted Eph head coach Rick
Pohle. "We knew Skidmore would be the odds on favorite to win the
event, so we decided to get some other players into the
line-up."
First year Jack Killea paced the team with a 79 and was closely
followed by junior Rahul Bahl who posted an 81. The remaining three
players senior Nicholas Nottebohm, senior Jeff Lin and junior Galen
Jackson all shot 85s to give the Ephs a team total of 330. Skidmore
posted a 306 to capture team honors. Schools hosting an event often
enter two teams in the field, but only the top scoring team figures
into the standings for team finishes. The Skidmore "Gold" team shot
a 321.
The Ephs now will focus on a return to upstate New York over the
weekend to compete in the Hamilton Invitational at Colgate
University's Seven Oaks Golf Course. "This will be a very
competitive field with the likes of Skidmore, NYU, Middlebury,
Salem St., St. Lawrence and Hamilton among the 12 schools
competing," said Pohle. "I think it is important that we finish off
the fall season on a good note, plus we have several players still
vying for a spot on the spring tournament roster to Florida which
will announced sometime next week."
