Ephs finish 2nd at Middlebury Tourney

The Thoroughbreds of Skidmore whittled 15 shots off their first day total of 307 to card a 292 and finished six shots ahead of the Ephs to capture the Duke Nelson Tourney at Middlebury. The Ephs' were one shot off their opening day effort of 302 with a 303 today and finished the 36-hole event with a 605, while Skidmore finished at 599.

The Duke Nelson Tournament was played on Middlebury's Ralph Myhre Golf Course, par 71.

The Eph youth brigade led the way today and on the weekend with first year John Killea recording the best score on Sunday for Williams with a 74. First year Bob Camp mirrored his first round of 76 and classmate Jake Wagner matched that 76 today after firing a 73 yesterday.

Wagner's two-day total of 149 tied him for eighth place overall. Bob Camp notched a two-day total of 152 and Killea tallied 153 in his two rounds.

Junior Tylaer Zara shot a 77 today and senior Brendan Conley recorded an 83.  Zara's two-day total was 156 and Conley's was 157.

"Everyone played well for us this weekend, although Brendan Conley had a tough 9-hole stretch, and that puts us in an enviable position," said Eph head coach Rick Pohle. "We have experience and we have good young talent. The first years because of all of their Junior Golf and high school experience were not rattled by being in the lead after the first day and being chased. As a team we shot one shot different on the two days, which shows consistency, but I think all of the guys know we can do even better."

"We're excited about the future and we are committed to working on getting better as a team and I think a lot of NESCAC teams saw today that Williams is back."

Next up for the Ephs is the Williams Invitational on September 22 and 23 at the famed Taconic Golf Club.
