Ephs own a 12-shot lead after day one of NESCAC Championships

KENSINGTON, CT – Rick Pohle's Williams College men's golf
team owns a 12-shot lead after day one of the two-day, 36-hole
NESCAC Golf Championship Tournament being played at Shuttle Creek
Meadow. Williams recorded a team score of 291 followed by
Middlebury (303), Hamilton (306) and host Trinity (316).
The Ephs got off to a slow start on the front nine with junior
Matt Felser carding the best score (36), but then got it going on
the back nine.
First year Drew Murray followed up his 38 on the front nine with a
32 on the back and finished one under par with a 70. Murray is in
second place, one shot behind Middlebury's George Baumann who fired
a two-under 69.
First year John Killea had a 39 to open and also matched Murray's
back nine of 32 to shoot a 71 and he is in third place. Felser shot
a 37 on the back and his total of 73 puts him in fourth.
Tied for eighth is first year Jake Wagner who carded a 77 with a
41 on the front and a 36 on the back. Senior co-captain Brendan
Conley is in a tie at 18th with a score of 81. Conley recovered
from a 44 on the front to fire a 37 on the back.
"We got a great team effort and played well within ourselves," Pohle commented. "Shuttle Meadow CC is a golf course that requires good course management and precise ball placement on the greens - for the most part, we had a lot of that today."
Play will conclude with 18 holes tomorrow.
