Ephs capture 11th consecutive Little Three title at Taconic Golf Club

For the 11th year in a row, the Williams men's golf team captured the Little Three golf championship. Williams defeated Wesleyan 11 ½- ½ and downed Amherst 11-1. Amherst finished second by defeating Wesleyan 7-5.

The competition featured 36 holes with eight alternate shot matches in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon.

This year the match was contested over the soon to be re-constructed Taconic Golf Club and the Ephs showed up ready to play. "We had a great discussion last evening about the importance of the Little Three and what it meant to have that title," remarked Eph head coach Rick Pohle.

"Personally, I think the match we played this weekend at Middlebury had a big part in the dominance we displayed today. It gave our young freshmen a taste of match play and what to expect from this sort of competition."

"I am especially pleased for our seniors to graduate with four Little Three titles in their time here at Williams," noted Pohle. "I never realized how important it was to our players until one past graduating player expressed his disappointment at having not won a Little Three title in his four years here."

Pohle's next task will be to select the five Ephs who will represent Williams at the NESCAC Championship Tournament this Saturday and Sunday at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington, Conn.

The Ephs' last appearance in the NCAA Tournament was in 2005.
 
Williams will battle host Trinity, Hamilton and Middlebury in the two-day, 36-hole event that will determine the NESCAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
